Abstract Canvas Art
Rosemary uses acrylic paints on canvas to produce her artwork. The interesting textures, visible on the detailed pictures of the paintings, are produced with the thick gesso ground she uses. Many of her paintings are enhanced with the use of metal foils to produce a metallic effect of golds , coppers and silvers.
Modern Abstract Paintings
Abstract artwork makes use of a new visual language of style, colour and line to produce a composition that can exist with an amount of independence from visible references in the world. Abstraction implies a departure from actuality in depiction of image in art. This departure from precise representation may be only minor, or it can easily be partial, or it can be total.
From the beginning of the 20th century social connections among painters of the main European and American cities had become very productive as they strove to produce an art form matching the aspirations of Modernism. Concepts were able to cross-fertilize through painters, books and exhibitions so that artists were amenable to experimentation and dialogue, and created a foundation for a variety of modes of abstraction.
Rosemary’s art continues this work of modern abstract paintings.
